The 2019 growing season was warm and dry. Severe wind during flowering led to lower than normal fruit set. Vine yields were lower than average resulting in complex and intense shiraz grapes. I made two shiraz wines. One from the Grampians and one from the Pyrenees. After more than a year in French oak, I did some blending trials and decided the spicy and peppery cool climate Grampians shiraz was enhanced when blended with a little of the richer and bolder Pyrenees Shiraz. One of my favourite meals is spaghetti bolognaise, and our Grampians Pyrenees Shiraz is the wine I like to pair it with. Don’t forget the garlic bread!
