The grapes for Rockface Shiraz are sourced from select vineyards within the Grampians, where the combination of granite-rich soils and a cool climate provides the perfect environment for growing exceptional Shiraz. The 2017 vintage was marked by ideal growing conditions, with warm days and cool nights allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and develop intense flavours and fine tannins. This slow maturation process is key to the depth and complexity that characterize Rockface Shiraz.
In the winery, we treat Rockface Shiraz with the same meticulous care that defines all of our wines. The grapes are hand-picked at the peak of ripeness and undergo a controlled fermentation process to extract the maximum colour, flavour, and structure. The wine is then aged in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barrels, which imparts subtle oak influences and enhances the wine’s complexity without overshadowing the fruit’s natural characteristics.
On the palate, Rockface Shiraz is a rich and full-bodied wine that delivers layers of dark fruit flavours, including blackberry, plum, and black cherry. These fruit notes are beautifully balanced by hints of black pepper, spice, and earthy undertones that reflect the unique terroir of the Grampians.
